Back Home in Oregon!

PaulNov2018

I’m back home in Oregon after six weeks of travel! My Kauai, Hawaii post is coming soon, probably this weekend (followed by my European travels). While in Europe, I attended the UK Technical Communication conference in Daventry as a sort of kickoff for my career realignment. In September, I resigned from my full-time position as a remote software developer to pursue a career in technical communication, looking to combine my writing, teaching, research, and software development background and giving my severely strained coding eyes a different career path. The three day TCUK conference was awesome and it added extra validation to my decision! I really enjoyed the workshops and conversations with my new tech comm colleagues. After the conference, I made a visit to commune with the Bard in Stratford-upon-Avon and then spent two days in Oxford, before heading back to France. Writing is central to my life’s goals, from a career standpoint, and I’m excited to have found a field that combines my software skills with my passion for writing and communication.

Present Moment

Whatever the specifics of a man’s purpose, he must always refresh the transcendental element of his life through regular meditation and retreat. A man should never get lost in the details of his life and forget that, ultimately and in truth, life amounts to nothing other than what is the deepest truth of this present moment. Tasks don’t get a man anywhere more conscious or free than he is capable of being in this moment.  — David Deida

My Dinner with Andre 1981

I watched this film the other night and really liked it. It gets more interesting in the second half, once Wally starts talking more. A very intellectually satisfying movie. Here is the film in its entirety:
