I go to mass on Sundays. From time to time, I will give a public intention for peace and for an end to war. I always hear someone praying for the military or “the troops.” While I support everyone’s right to free speech and to pray for whatever they want, I think it is crazy from a theological standpoint. If your kid is in the military, pray for their safety and for peace, but to pray for the military– especially while at war- is the thought of someone with a faulty understanding of the Gospel and a medieval outlook on religion. Why pray just for the U.S. military? Why not add the French Foreign Legion, the Chinese Army, or the police force of Rio de Janeiro? I hope those in my church read this, but I highly doubt that they would frequent my blog. I suspect those praying for the military are glued to Fox News.
